One of Reliant Building Solutions’ very first clients recently called about a problem in one of their parking decks. Though we moved away from concrete repair and now concentrate on interior structural steel jobs, there was no chance we would turn away an organization that took a chance on us as a start-up 11 years ago.
The issue they contacted us about was a faulty expansion joint cover. The problem turned out to be a good product installed in the wrong application. The cover plate had been mounted at the top of a ramp, bridging the transition from upward slope to level slab. It was never meant for this. Over time, the cars entering/leaving the deck hit the edges of the covers and broke them as well as the concrete they were anchored to. We realized the way to keep our client from having a repeat of this problem was to recess the cover plates into the concrete so the cars would ride over them, not impact against them. This solution should provide years of damage-free service. The after picture shows the newly installed plates in the re-profiled concrete.
For most of our 11 years, Reliant Building Solutions has specialized in structural steel projects in existing buildings, so this repair was a departure from our routine. But we appreciate customer loyalty and wanted to return that loyalty.
