This image captures the aftermath of a highly complex and demanding installation process. Reliant Building Solutions is in the midst of installing steel components to support a multi-level ornamental stairway in a high-rise building.
The beam you see in the photo is a feat of engineering and logistics. It weighs 1,475 pounds and stretches 29 feet in length. Due to its massive size, the beam was transported in sections via the service elevator to the 49th floor. Once there, the crew carefully welded the sections together before lifting the assembled beam into its final position.
Placing this beam required ingenuity and precise teamwork. Hoists were attached to the steel framework of the 51st floor, while the beam itself was lifted from the 49th floor. This multi-level approach was crucial given the weight and dimensions of the beam, as well as the constraints of working within an occupied high-rise environment. The crew operated from the 49th floor, meticulously attaching the new steel beam to the building’s existing structure.
The beam in the image is the second of four large beams to be installed as part of this project. Each installation presents unique challenges due to the size and weight of the materials, as well as the logistical complexities of high-rise construction. In addition to these major beams, a significant amount of smaller steel components will be installed to complete the support system for the ornamental stair.
